Guideline for Teachers

Welcome potential teachers to Oslo Impro Festival! Our teacher application is opening up very very soon. We thought this can help you know what Oslo Impro Festival and our community Impro Neuf are looking for, and prepare you for an application.

    • A mix of old and new friends: Many of our regular visitors had asked if they could teach at Oslo Impro Festival. This year we are making it possible. We are building a faculty of about 10 teachers as a mix of old friends and newcomers to the Impro Neuf community.

    • Impro(v) from all over the world: We are curious what impro is like in different parts of the world. We want a festival showcasing the diversity what impro can be and is globally.

    • Workshops that you love (3 or 6 hours): People who love what they do. Workshops that you love to teach, not just what you think will sell well. We want a variety of tried and tested topics in impro, and unique or new perspectives from you or where you come from.

    • Community builders: Impro Neuf is a volunteer community who creates an impro scene in Oslo. We love people who bring a lot of value to their communities.

    • Teachers on their impro journey: We want to select not only the most known names, but also teachers who haven’t yet had many opportunities to work internationally. We want to open doors for you. goes here

    • Teaching compensation: We offer compensation at a fixed rate of 800 NOK (about €70) per hour (3 to 6 hour workshop per teacher).

    • Travel grant: A grant covering up to 50% of your expenses (with a maximum amount) on your travels to get to Oslo (*see section About The Travel Grant).

    • Festival perks! Free shows, discounted workshops or discounted festival passes? More info to come.

    • Help on accommodation: Priority on free housing with a community member, if a room or a couch is available.

    • Carnival: We offer any participant a chance to run a mini-workshop during our Carnival opening day on the 18th October! This is a 100% free, community-driven day for both teachers and participants. You can try out niche ideas or experimental workshops.

    Note:

    • Teachers with higher travel expense may be prioritized for additional workshops.

    • Musical workshops are welcome, as long as you provide your own musician. We can provide a keyboard.

    • Bring positive community vibes — our slogan is IMPRO NEUF LOVES YOU

    • Show up on time

    • Make a safe and playful learning environment

    • Help us with promotion of the festival (i.e. repost on social media/spread the good word!)

    • Teacher application opens on Monday 14th April 2025 at 00:01 (Norway / CEST UTC+2). We close applications on Sunday 18th May 2025 at 23:59 (Norway / CEST UTC+2). We aim to send out our responses before 1st June 2025. Please remember to check your spam folder.

    • When you apply, we assume you are available for a teaching spot any day from the 18th to the 25th of October. If this is not the case, let us know in the last section of the application.

    • There is a rolling selection. We might accept some teachers before the deadline, especially people traveling from far away. Some spots will be held open until the last day, but don't wait until the last minute to apply — your chances might be improved with early submission.

    • We will base our selection on topics/genres/the variety we see in the submission, and representation across the world and different kinds of diversity. If you are an early applicant, please be patient if you don't hear from us right away — we might need some time to get an overview.

  • The travel grant is calculated at up to 50% of your main travel expenses (e.g. flights) to Oslo, and will be reimbursed after the festival. Additionally we consider your country of residence. We use the estimates from the World Bank, please see: https://datahelpdesk.worldbank.org/knowledgebase/articles/906519-world-bank-country-and-lending-groups

If you live in a country listed as:

    • high income: we can provide a grant of max 2000 NOK (around €176)

    • upper-middle:we can provide a grant of max 3000 NOK (around €264)

    • lower-middle / low: we can provide a grant of max 5000 NOK (about €352)

Optionally, you may always decline travel grant and we will put it in good use to bring teachers from less privileged countries.
